okay with whatever you suggest a best practice system can do”.
It’s time to stop struggling and increase your success at eliciting requirements by attending our two-part webinar series, on the 5 No-Nos and 5 Best practice methods for eliciting requirements. Sola will explore the five mistakes most people make while eliciting requirements and further expose you to how to make requirements elicitation a fun thing. Sola has lead implementation of several application and technology infrastructure projects, and has managed several business analysts in eliciting and documenting requirements.

Managing Requirements Maturity
Garry McGouldrick
SVP of Sales & Professional Services with IAG Consulting
Garry McGouldrick is the Senior Vice President of Professional Services at IAG Consulting
, the largest consultancy in North America solely focused on business and systems
requirements. Over the last seven years with IAG Consulting, he has worked on dozens
of high profile strategic projects ensuring that both business & project objectives
are realized in a timely and cost effective manner. With almost 20 years of experience
assisting large organizations to manage technology and related IT projects, he is
well known for his ability to assist clients to scope requirements and implement
a budget and plan to provide true business value.
Managing Requirements Maturity
Improving organizational Requirements Maturity is a strategic approach to improving
project success and aligning IT with the business to meet objectives on time and
on budget consistently.
According to the recent IAG BA Benchmark study of 437 large and medium organizations
in North America and Europe, the organizational level of Requirements Maturity is
directly proportional to the likelihood of project success. Companies invest millions
of dollars in recruitment, hiring, and training of Business Analysts every year
without a detailed understanding of the role and how to integrate into the enterprise;
the average Requirements Maturity level in North America is only 1.8 on a scale
of 1-5, and only a fraction of those measured qualified at a level 3 or higher.
For individual and organizations that are serious about improving in a consistent
and measureable way, IAG will explain the key concepts and results you can expect
by improving organizational Requirements Maturity
Learning Objectives:
- The impact of requirements maturity on overall business and project objectives
- The Requirements Maturity Model
- What are the 5 levels of maturity
- The key requirements capabilities
- All process areas that should be considered when measuring requirements maturity
- How to assess requirements maturity
- A high level roadmap to improving requirements capabilities

Managing and Tracking Requirements with Microsoft ALM
Adam Gallant
Technology Solutions Professional, Microsoft
Asif Sharif
Chief Technologist,
The goal of a successful requirements management process is to get a consistent
interpretation of the requirements from all the stakeholders.
The goal of process improvement is for people in your organization to work in new
ways that yield effective results.
- A process that is “Documented” can be repeated.
- A process that is “Repeatable” can be measured.
- A process that is “Measurable” can be improved!
Using the right integrated platform that support requirements definition & management,
collaboration, project management, test management & automation and software
development activity is key to any successful project. Microsoft Visual Studio along
with inteGREAT can provide just such a platform.
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1. Apply key principles to develop a repeatable and measureable process to help improve
project delivery
2. See how inteGREAT works with Visual Studio Team Foundation Server to Elicit,
Analyze, Represent, and Validate requirements
3. Understand how Visual Studio provides a comprehensive ALM Solution that engages
all stakeholders
4. Realize how you can continue to work with many familiar tools such as Word, Excel,
Visio and SharePoint within a state of the art integrated ALM platform.

Using Requirements for Test Automation In a fully integrated Microsoft ALM Solution

The concept of linking your software requirements with testing is well known and the benefits are clear – deliver software on time, with the required features and sufficient quality. Involving QA teams at the start of the project helps to identify risks before they make it into the plan, where they will be harder to find and costly to correct. For QA teams to effectively evaluate risks in the project plan, requirements need to be clear, unambiguous and properly documented.
Industry research shows that the root cause of more than half of all errors identified
in projects are introduced in the requirements phase. As a result, many organizations
are looking to reduce their risk by implementing formal requirements management
practices. The adoption of a formalized requirements management discipline can be
leveraged by the quality assurance organization by implementing a requirements-based
testing methodology that ensures comprehensive test coverage. Requirements-based
testing can increase efficiency, reduce the risk of failure, and improve overall
software quality.
Learning Objectives (at the end of the session, participants
will be able to):
- Apply a Knowledge Management Approach to Requirements Development and Test Automation
- Define Use Case and Auto-generate Test Case with full traceability
- Understand how inteGREAT and Visual Studio provides a comprehensive ALM Solution

Tool vs. Process: Which Comes First?
Are you thinking it’s time to update (or finally define) your requirements best
practices? Have you also realized you need a requirements management tool? Do you
want to avoid rework and the wasteful “unlearning curve” later? If so, this webinar
is for you.
Joy Beatty, VP R&D at Seilevel, is going to compare the reasons to start with
the requirements process to reasons why you might start with the requirements tool,
highlighting some non-obvious ways to think through this decision. During this webinar,
she will recommend which approach to use—tool first or process first—including tips
to make it work and approaches to deal with common challenges. At the end of the
webinar, she’ll also share a free take-away, a copy of Seilevel’s recent requirements
management tool research. That research includes reviews of 16 tools against 200
criteria, and is set up so you can manipulate the priorities for your own tool selection
decision.
What you will learn:
- Strengths and weakness of the reasons to start with requirements processes as compared
to requirements tools
- A recommended approach to putting both processes and tools in place
- Suggestions to successfully implement a new requirements management tool

The day of the big move is upon you. The semi-truck stuffed with all of your personal furnishings pulls up to your new home. The moving crew gets to work at once, and swiftly begins unloading and carrying your things through the front door. Suddenly the harmonious dance that the crew performs comes to a screeching halt.
As eyes roam back and forth from the front door to your magnificent grand piano, your heart nearly stops as you realize that the piano is not going to fit. What are you going to do?
Functionally, the home builder constructed a beautiful home. However, somehow this non-functional detail was missed. Does this scenario sound familiar to any of the missed requirements on your projects lately? Do operation requirements such as response time, throughput, capacity, and availability get missed? What about flexibility requirements such as scalability, multi-lingual, installability, and extendability? Roxanne Miller will reveal "patterns" of non-functional requirements that can reduce the possibility of missed requirements that cause project rework. Come and find out what you've been missing.
Learning Objectives (at the end of the session, participants will be able to):
- Recognize the difference between functional and non-functional requirements.
- Understand various categories of non-functional requirements.
- Discover the simplicity of this frequently misunderstood and overlooked requirement type.
